Greg Vlant | Pre Kinder

Hello I’m Greg and I am an Educator in the Pre Kinder room. I began my placement at Greythorn around mid 2017, but my affection for working with children began many years prior.

There’s numerous reasons and decisions made throughout my life that have brought me to working with children, which I have turned into the tools that I use and love that I have for what I do.

As an Educator, I am very serious in how I approach educating. I don’t look for a quick fix just to get through the day. My aim is to equip children with the tools and confidence long term, to grow into who they want to be and to be able to take on life. As well as, but not limited to, be independent, have self respect and learn responsibility for their decisions. This is something that takes years and years of course, but no better time to start than as early as possible and in a safe and supportive environment.

I’m very open for children to explore anything they desire, within boundaries of course. How else can they find something out, unless they find it out themselves. It’s never as simple as just telling them, they generally have to experience it, feel it, to learn and understand it.

Again this all takes years of trial and error, as it does with myself when it comes to educating. I’m constantly reflecting on what I do and what I say to the children. I try and take the children through real life experiences through interactions and intentional experiences.

Well there’s much more I could go on about educating, it is something that is constantly running through my mind.

A bit about myself - I am married and have two boys, Logan and Yūji. I used to be a carpenter ( I guess I still am as I still do the odd weekend job) since about 2008. I do, more than anything enjoy spending time with family, as it’s a very valuable time. I’m trustworthy, loyal, serious, shy and love a good laugh.

My interests and hobbies vary quite a bit, but a few are watching movies and reading books, Lego and Hot Wheels, camping, resistance training, coffee, travelling and photography. I also enjoy good food and a good drink.

Lastly I would like to say that I am grateful for this opportunity to spend time and assist your child during these crucial developmental years.
