Educational Excellence through Play-Based Learning
At Greythorn Early Childhood Centre, our play-based educational program stands out as a beacon of excellence in our community. Aligned with the Department of Education’s framework, our approach is designed to foster holistic development, and every activity is thoughtfully crafted to nurture physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth, creating a dynamic and joyful learning environment.
Play-based learning, is more than just free time to play, it is a structured approach where educators expertly design hands-on experiences that integrate key educational concepts, encouraging children to explore, imagine, and think critically. Play becomes a powerful tool for developing creativity, problem-solving, and social skills..
Guided by a range of early childhood theorists, our program is intentional and inspiring. Our educators actively engage with children, scaffolding their thinking and nurturing a lifelong passion for learning. Through these enriching play experiences, we build a strong foundation for future success, helping children thrive as confident, capable individuals ready for the world ahead.
Our Educational Philosophy
As early childhood professionals we strive to form trusting and respectful relationships with all children, families and fellow educators, as well as the wider community. We value families and being involved in their child’s development and understand that they are central to their child’s learning.
We see the child as knowledgeable, powerful, competent, creative, curious and unique individuals that are the protagonist in their learning and should be given the opportunity to develop to their full potential. We aim to be a co-learners and collaborators with children where we can provoke and facilitate their thinking to build on their learning and development.
We see the environment as the third teacher, where the environment is inviting, creative, colourful and full of natural and recycles resource in which children can engage with, create meaning and learn in their unique ways. We are committed to building and creating these environments that promote a sense of awe and wonder amongst children. Believing that playing, wondering, inquiring, experimenting, trailing, testing are some of the best and most effective ways for children to learn in the early years of childhood.
We aim to create safe and secure learning environments that promotes acceptance of all cultures, religion, and beliefs. Forming an educational environment that reflects the diversity of our community, enables us to open the children’s minds and actively engage them to develop a lifelong love for learning.
Unique Community Connections
What sets Greythorn apart is our deep-rooted commitment to community connections and family values. We believe that a strong partnership between educators, families, and the local community is essential for the optimal growth and development of our children. Our centre actively collaborates with local organisations and families to create a supportive and enriching environment.
We are committed to providing a developmental and educational program which caters for each child’s individual needs, abilities and interests. Our program will continue to develop as we use the relationships children have with their families and communities, working in partnership with parents, to ensure each child’s knowledge, ideas, culture, abilities and interests are the foundation of our programs.
